While responding to reports of a mob incident in Chicago, an Illinois State Police trooper's vehicle was attacked by the crowd, with members jumping on the unit and throwing fireworks and brick at it.
A mob of roughly 100 people surrounded and attacked an occupied Illinois State Police cruiser Sunday in Chicago, causing extensive damage to the vehicle.
Dashboard camera footage captured the incident as a trooper was responding to a mob incident at an intersection shortly before 2 a.m., WPSD-TV reports. Several vehicles were blocking the roadway and performing stunts.
When the trooper reached the intersection, a mob numbering about 100 people engulfed the police cruiser. Some in the crowd began kicking and jumping on the vehicle, shattering the windshield. Others also threw fireworks, bricks and rocks at the unit.
The Illinois State Police is investigating the incident and asking the public for any information.
